Our San G Boys' Soccer team rallied back from two first round defeats to go undefeated in our final 7 SAL games jumping from fifth place two weeks ago to SAL #2 seed as we upended Rialto 2-0 in the regular season finale at home Friday.  A loss and our Spartans would have been out of the playoffs but a 2-0 victory tied us for second place with previous first place Rialto and we hold the head-to-head tie breaker over Rialto so we go as the #2 seed into the CIF Playoffs.

The first half was a back and forth battle as both teams had quality opportunities to score but still ended 0-0.  However, early in the second half, Manny Perez converted a 2v1 cornerkick play to put our Spartans up 1-0.  The goal seemed to swing the momentum as San G took over the second half limiting Rialto's chances.  With about 8 minutes to go in the game, our Spartans penetrated the box and seemed to earn a penalty kick as a Rialto defender sprawled on the ground knocking the ball with his outstretched arm but the official did not make the call.  With a minute left in the game, Rialto got one final opportunity when the official called a penalty against our Spartans 30 yards from goal but the shot ricocheted harmlessly off the wall.  Then two minutes into injury time, Jesus Ortega put the game away as he buried his shot after bulling his way through the Knight defense.
