Opening up league play today against Pacific, our Spartans shutout the Pirates 5-0.  

We got started when Marisol Barragan fed a beautiful pass to Jiselle Torres, who punted the ball from just outside the 18 and found the upper corner of the net.  We capped off the first half with a goal by Roxanna Gomez off a cross from the left side by Ruby Valadez.  Leading 2-0 going into the second half, our Spartans remained in control.  Roxanna Gomez took the ball from the 40, dribbled right around two Pirates, and after beating a third just inside the 18, was taken down in the box and given a PK, which she buried in the back of the net, recording her second goal of the night and putting us up by 3.  Our Spartans weren't finished, as half way through the second half, Ruby Valadez finished a cross by Roxanne Villarreal.  With less than 10 minutes in the game, we sank the Pirates as Vicky Ruedas scored off a pass from Jiselle Torres.

Recording her first shut out of the season was Angele Villa, who also had 4 saves.  The defense was solid, led by Dennise Flores at sweeper.
