After losing a tough game to Lakeside early on Day 2 of the San G Tournament, our Spartans were faced with one of our league rivals, Carter.  This preview of league play turned out to be the battle that was expected.  Our Spartans jumped out quick scoring our first goal in less than 10 mins on a stunned Carter defense.  Cynthia Rivera gave a hard, quick pass on the ground to Roxanna Gomez, who beat the last defender and had a breakaway from the 50.  The keeper came out to challenge and Roxy sent  a hard ball on the ground to the corner of the net, putting the Spartans up 1-0.  The Spartans got on the board again at the 22 minute mark after a flurry of shots on goal, the ball popped out to the top of the 18 to Marisol Barragan, who passed the ball into Roxanna Gomez.  She shot hard and found the back of the net.  With our Spartans leading 2-0, the Carter Lions came back 5 mins later with a goal of their own.  The first half ended with our Spartans leading 2-1.

All the scoring took place in the first half as both teams played good defense in the second half and neither team could gain an edge.  At the end of regulation, the score ended with our Spartans on top defeating the Lions 2-1.
