Day two of our San G Winter Classic had our Spartans facing the Lakeside Lancers in the quarterfinals of the Consolation Bracket.  In the first half, both teams had chances, but neither team could find the net and get on the scoreboard.  Angele Villa played well in goal and came up with 7 saves in the first half alone.  We had our chances at their end of the field in the first half with crosses from Jiselle Torres and Roxanna Gomez, that went right to the center of the box, but we couldn't finish.  Cynthia Rivera had a shot from just inside the 18, but their keeper made a good save keeping the game tied up 0-0.

Just over 10 minutes into the second half, the Lancers went up 1-0 on a shot that took a bad bounce and skipped past keeper Angele Villa.  With our Spartans trailing by 1 we tried to get our offense started.  We had several free kicks, but couldn't find the net.  With 10 mins remaining, Brianna Irwin moved up to midfield from defense to try to add to the offense.  With less than 5 remaining, Janellie Sanchez joined the attack.  We had our chances, but couldn't capitalize.  With under 2 mins remaining, the Spartans pressuring, and everybody pushed up trying to even the score, the Lancers cleared the ball which found one of their strikers, who took it down the left side and shot a hard ball on the ground that caught Angele off guard and scored.  The Spartans fell to the Lancers 2-0.
